Kelcy Warren’s Historic Gift Propels UTA’s Engineering Program

In a landmark moment for The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), Kelcy Warren’s recent donation of $12 million stands as the largest philanthropic
contribution in the institution’s history. The funds are set to enhance UTA’s
newly introduced Resource and Energy Engineering (REE) program, which is
scheduled to debut in the fall of 2023. 

The substantial investment aims to position UTA as a leading force in resource and energy
engineering education. The REE program, a pioneering initiative in the United
States, will equip students with the necessary skills to effectively manage
energy resources, aligning with Texas’s growing demand for industry-ready
graduates. The endowment will create the Kelcy Warren
Endowed Professorship, further affirming Warren’s dedication to fostering
academic excellence in this crucial field. 

UTA President Jennifer Cowley expressed deep gratitude for Warren’s contribution, noting that
the donation would significantly bolster the university’s capacity to cultivate
a new generation of engineers. The program will encompass both conventional and
renewable energy sources, preparing students to tackle the evolving challenges of the energy sector. 

The gift will also establish two additional Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty Fellowships and
state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, ensuring that both students and faculty
have access to superior educational resources. Additionally, it will support
the creation of the Kelcy Warren Career Experience Center, aimed at providing
undergraduate engineering students with experiential learning opportunities, including internships and co-ops. 

Kelcy Warren, a distinguished alumnus and member of The University of Texas System Board of Regents, continues to demonstrate a steadfast
commitment to education and community development. The establishment of
scholarships and fellowships named in his honor will support both undergraduate
and graduate students pursuing careers in energy engineering. 

This transformative contribution underscores Warren’s enduring relationship with UTA and his
unwavering support for future engineers. His generous gift promises to elevate
the university’s standing in the field of energy engineering while providing
