When there are drugs inside the prison, my job as a corrections officer is to do everything in my power to take control of the situation before inmates have the opportunity to abuse the situation. The trouble we have in this prison is when the drugs reach one prisoner, it has the chance to be sold to more inmates throughout our facility. My team of officers has to really tighten up the security within to make sure no drugs can get to our inmates.
When we start each day, we will do searches of several inmate cells to try and locate any contraband that should not be in their possession. We put a strong police presence inside the visitor center too, to try and control what comes into the jail from the outside and into the hands of the inmates. My team will inspect mail to the inmates and even listen to the conversations these inmates have on the phones too.
When Securus Technologies first installed the call monitoring system, we did not realize at the time how powerful a resource we had. This company has installed similar units in 2,600 jails around the country, and their employees and CEO alike are all committed to the objective of making the world safer for us all. The LBS software allows my team to better monitor inmates on the phone while we address more pressing issues.
This month we have received alerts from the software and taken immediate action. These instances include inmates who are talking about how they are able to use drugs in their cells at night, how they hide drugs outside the cells, and who they ask to smuggle in those drugs to hand them over to them when they come to the prison to meet on visitors day.
